The Monument to Miguel de Cervantes is a bronze bust made in 1974 by the sculptor Sebastián Santos, located in a small roundabout on Calle Entre Cárceles, in Seville's historic centre. The sculpture depicts Cervantes in the "American plane" style, wearing a doublet, a ruff similar to that worn by the armaos of La Macarena, and a cloak, holding an open copy of Don Quixote in one hand and a sword in the other, on a marble pedestal. It is based on the portrait of Cervantes held by the Royal Spanish Academy. The monument commemorates the author's connection to the city, as Cervantes began writing Don Quixote very close to this spot. It sits in a peaceful setting, visited by those wishing to view this depiction of the author.
