Palaeontological Museum
Estepona's Palaeontological Museum, opened in 2000, is a landmark of Andalusian palaeontological heritage. Its galleries display an important collection of replica skeletons of Patagonian dinosaurs, as well as original fossils from various geological eras of Andalusia and Spain. Highlights include collections of Pliocene marine molluscs from the Málaga and Estepona basins, an Upper Triassic coral reef with fossils of Rhaetavicula contorta, and the oldest fossils discovered in Estepona. Visitors can also see the only Pliocene fossil sirenian recorded in Andalusia, vertebrae and teeth of cetaceans and sharks, a 30 cm Clypeaster sea urchin, a Lower Permian palaeobotanical collection and Upper Jurassic ammonites. Admission is free.
