Grosvenor Museum
The Grosvenor Museum is at 27 Grosvenor Street and opened in 1886, on land donated by the 1st Duke of Westminster. Its best-known collection is the Roman Galleries, on the ground floor, which tell the story of the life and death of the soldiers of Chester's Roman fortress and display an outstanding series of tombstones. On the first floor there is an art gallery, a silver gallery, a room on the nature of Cheshire and one on local history. There is also a programme of exhibitions and activities. It has no lift, so the upper floors are not wheelchair accessible. It is about a ten to fifteen minute walk from the bus station; from the central crossing, go down Bridge Street and turn right into Grosvenor Street. The visit can comfortably be done in an hour and a half.
