Castel Sant'Angelo
CultureVisit: ~90 min
A mausoleum that Emperor Hadrian had built in the 2nd century AD for himself and his family. Over time it became a papal fortress, prison and refuge for the popes, linked to the Vatican by the Passetto di Borgo. Today it is a museum, and from its upper terrace you can see much of Rome. It stands beside the Tiber, at the end of the Sant'Angelo Bridge, adorned with statues of angels by Bernini and his workshop.
