I Love You Wall

The I Love You Wall is a 40-square-metre mural in the garden of the Square Jehan Rictus, on Place des Abbesses in Montmartre, Paris. It is made up of 612 enamelled lava tiles, each 21 × 29.7 cm, reproducing the phrase 'I love you' 311 times in 250 languages, including rare languages such as Nahuatl, Navajo, Bambara, Malagasy, Tigrinya, Tongan, Nubian, Enga, Futunan, Wolof and Amharic. It was created by Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito and unveiled in autumn 2000. The wall is open to the public and free to visit. Its symbolism includes red splashes representing the pieces of a broken heart that, when combined, form a perfect heart. It is a meeting place for lovers from all over the world and a symbol of reconciliation and peace. Since March 2026, the wall has been partly closed off because the wall is collapsing, so only half of it can be seen from outside the square.
