National Gallery Prague

The National Gallery Prague is a national museum with the largest art collection in the Czech Republic, comprising more than 400,000 items. Its holdings are displayed in several historic buildings around the city: the Convent of St Agnes of Bohemia houses medieval art from Bohemia and Central Europe; the Sternberg Palace shows European art from antiquity to the Baroque, with works by Dürer, El Greco, Goya, Rubens and Van Dyck; the Schwarzenberg Palace is devoted to the Baroque in Bohemia; the Kinský Palace presents art from Asia and the ancient world; the Salm Palace displays 19th-century art; and the Trade Fair Palace (Veletržní Palace) houses the collection of modern and contemporary art, including works by Picasso, Monet, Van Gogh, Rodin, Gauguin, Cézanne, Renoir, Schiele, Munch, Miró and Klimt, as well as Alfons Mucha's Slav Epic and an important collection of Czech Cubism. Founded in 1796, it is one of the oldest public art galleries in the world.
