Musée d'Archéologie Méditerranéenne
The museum occupies the first floor of the Vieille Charité centre, the Baroque complex in the Panier district. Its collection of Egyptian antiquities is the second largest in France after that of the Louvre. The tour starts on the banks of the Nile and in Mesopotamia and the Near East, continues through Phoenicia and Greece, passes through the Mediterranean islands and reaches Etruria and Roman Italy. Among the pieces the museum itself highlights are a funerary stele of farewell, a Siana cup, a Panathenaic amphora, a Villanovan urn, the so-called Marseille sacrificial tariff, a Minoan oinochoe, the Kasa stelae, the offering table of Qenherkhepeshef and an ibis reliquary dedicated to Thoth. The permanent collections are free to enter.
