Belfast Zoo
Belfast Zoo sits on the northeastern slope of Cavehill, offering a peaceful setting and views over the Antrim Road as visitors explore its 22 hectares. The zoo is home to more than 1,200 animals from around 140 species, including primates such as gorillas and lemurs, birds such as penguins and flamingos, reptiles, and a farm with pygmy goats and Shetland ponies. Attractions include the Rainforest House, an indoor walk-through with tropical vegetation and species such as sloths and tortoises, plus renovated areas for gorillas, chimpanzees, giraffes and elephants. Visitors can learn about the zoo's conservation and breeding programmes for endangered species, and explore the site's history through multimedia presentations at the visitor centre.
