An enclosed monastery founded in 1559 by Juana de Austria, daughter of Charles V, in the palace where she had been born. Behind its plain walls it holds one of the richest art collections in Madrid: a fresco-painted staircase, chapels and the series of tapestries The Triumph of the Eucharist, designed by Rubens. It can only be visited with a Patrimonio Nacional guide.
