Servian Walls

CultureVisit: ~45 minFree

Remains of Rome's ancient Republican defensive wall, built from large blocks of volcanic tuff, which can still be seen at various points in the city. The longest stretch is preserved next to Termini station, even integrated into a dining area, while on the Aventine Hill there is another notable section with an arch associated with a defensive catapult. Along the route you can make out features such as the ditch in front of the wall and the earth ramp on the north side, and traces remain of some of its historic gates, such as the Porta Esquilina.
