The Idemitsu Museum of Arts, founded in 1966, occupies the ninth floor of the Imperial Theatre building in Marunouchi, Chiyoda, Tokyo. Its collection, assembled over 70 years by Sazō Idemitsu, comprises around 15,000 works, including two National Treasures and 54 Important Cultural Properties, spanning Japanese painting, calligraphy, East Asian ceramics and works by European artists such as Georges Rouault. The museum holds around six special exhibitions a year and has a Room of Fragments displaying ceramics from Asian and Egyptian kilns. The museum has been temporarily closed since 25 December 2024 due to the demolition and rebuilding of the Teigeki building, and no reopening date has been announced.
