Port of Tarragona

CultureVisit: ~60 minFree

The Port of Tarragona is a multi-purpose port combining fishing, commercial, passenger and sporting activity. It is an economic driver of Catalonia and one of the most important ports in the Mediterranean. Much of its activity is related to industrial and freight transport, but it is also a fishing, boating and passenger port. The port is the terminus of a railway branch line running along the Mediterranean corridor. It is a key point for the chemical industry of the Camp de Tarragona, with a dedicated platform for ships carrying crude oil and its derivatives. The port also receives cruise ships, with 130,000 cruise passengers in 2019. For visitors, the port offers cultural spaces such as the Museu del Port and temporary exhibitions at Refugi 1 on the Moll de Costa, as well as the chance to watch port and fishing activity. The port's history dates back to Roman times, when Tárraco was a major trading centre.
