Port of Seville
The Port of Seville is Spain's only inland maritime commercial port, located in the Guadalquivir estuary about 90 kilometres from its mouth. It was historically the hub of Spanish transatlantic trade: in 1503 the Catholic Monarchs established the Casa de la Contratación de Indias there, and in 1519 the Magellan–Elcano expedition, which completed the first circumnavigation of the globe, set sail from its Muelle de las Mulas. The historic port area was in the Arenal district, between the Torre del Oro and the Puente de Barcas de Triana. Today the port has a cruise terminal, the Muelle de las Delicias, and the Batán basin, with the Centenario and Batán Norte quays, equipped for loading and unloading dry bulk cargo and with a container terminal. The Tablada quay, in the Alfonso XIII basin, handles bulk cargo. Visitors can walk around the port area and see the historic and modern infrastructure of this river port.
