Piazza del Campidoglio
CultureVisit: ~30 min
Square on the Capitoline Hill, the ancient religious centre of ancient Rome, redesigned by Michelangelo from 1538. It is trapezoidal, with the Senatorial Palace at the back and the Capitoline Museums on either side. In the centre once stood the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius (there is now a copy), on a star-patterned pavement. Reach it by the Cordonata steps. From the side terrace you can see the Roman Forum.
