Royal Alcázar of Seville

The Royal Alcázar of Seville is a walled palace complex built in different historical stages, from the early Middle Ages through Renaissance and Baroque alterations. It preserves traces of Islamic art, a Mudéjar palace section and a Gothic one. It is the residence of members of the Spanish royal family when they visit Seville, making it the oldest royal palace still in use in Europe. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1987, together with the cathedral and the Archive of the Indies. In 2019 it received 2,067,016 visitors. The complex includes courtyards such as the Patio de la Montería, the Patio del Yeso and the Patio de las Doncellas, the Hall of the Ambassadors, the Hall of Justice, the Lion's Gate and gardens. The Mudéjar architecture of the Palace of Pedro I is a leading example on the Iberian Peninsula, with plasterwork and tiles.
