The Carmen Thyssen Museum Málaga is an art museum housed in the Palacio de Villalón, a 16th-century Renaissance building that has been restored and extended. Its permanent collection, drawn from the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza collection, brings together more than 250 works of 19th-century Spanish and Andalusian painting, organised into four sections: Old Masters (featuring a notable Saint Marina by Zurbarán), Romantic Landscape and Costumbrismo, Preciosismo and Naturalist Landscape, and Turn of the Century (with works by Sorolla, Regoyos, Casas and Romero de Torres, among others). The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions, a library, an auditorium, a shop, a café and a Roman archaeological site in the basement, with remains of a 2nd-century domus and a nymphaeum decorated with fish paintings, which can be visited on guided tours using virtual reality. It offers guided tours, cultural activities such as concerts and live-arts series, and services including an audio guide, cloakroom and wifi. General admission costs €12 (€15 including the archaeological site), with reduced and free rates for various groups. It opens Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00, closed Mondays (except public holidays).
