Tower of London
The Tower of London is a historic complex on the banks of the River Thames, made up of several buildings surrounded by two concentric rings of defensive walls and a moat, with the White Tower, built by William the Conqueror in 1078, at its heart. Visitors can explore spaces that have served as a prison, armoury, treasury, menagerie, Royal Mint and, most notably, the Crown Jewels chamber, where the jewels have been on public display since the 17th century. During the visit, it is possible to explore courtyards, towers and rooms that were the setting for historic episodes such as royal processions, the imprisonment of famous figures, and restorations that have returned the castle to its medieval appearance.
