Montmartre Cemetery, officially known as the Cimetière du Nord, is the third-largest cemetery in Paris, located in the 18th arrondissement. Opened in 1825, it was built in a disused gypsum quarry, below street level, with its only entrance on Avenue Rachel. It is a popular tourist destination and the final resting place of many famous artists, including Edgar Degas, Hector Berlioz, François Truffaut, Vaslav Nijinsky and Émile Zola, among many others. Visitors can walk its paths and admire the tombs and monuments of notable figures from culture and history.
