Volksgarten
Vienna's Volksgarten is an extensive 9-hectare public park combining a rose garden with around 400 varieties of roses with French-style and English landscape gardens, ideal for strolling among geometric flower beds and tree-lined avenues. At the centre of the park stands the Theseustempel, a scale replica of the Greek Temple of Hephaestus, which originally housed a sculpture of Theseus by Antonio Canova. The park contains notable monuments, including one dedicated to Empress Elisabeth of Bavaria, the poet Franz Grillparzer, Chancellor Julius Raab and a bronze sculpture of a young athlete, as well as ornamental fountains such as the Triton- und Nymphenbrunnen and the Volksgarten-Brunnen. Visitors will also find the historic Cortisches Kaffeehaus, once the venue for concerts by Johann Strauss and Josef Lanner and now a nightclub, along with the Milchpavillon and the Café Meierei.
