World Museum
The World Museum, on William Brown Street, Liverpool, is a large free museum with more than 1.7 million objects and specimens. It holds one of the most important collections of Egyptian antiquities in Europe, with around 15,000 objects, including a mummy room. It has a 62-seat planetarium, the first in the UK outside London, which attracts around 90,000 visitors a year. It also has an aquarium with British and tropical marine species, a Bug House with live invertebrates and free handling sessions, a dinosaur and natural world gallery reopened in February 2026, a Wild World gallery on global ecosystems, a space gallery with meteorites and a moon rock, and a collection of world cultures with Benin bronzes and pre-Columbian objects. Among its unique pieces is the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer, an Aztec manuscript, and the only surviving specimen of the Liverpool pigeon. Admission is free, and the museum is located in the St George's Quarter cultural district, a five-minute walk from Lime Street station.
