Sainte-Geneviève Library

The Sainte-Geneviève Library is located in the Latin Quarter of Paris, opposite the Place du Panthéon, and holds nearly two million documents, including manuscripts, printed works, photographs and art objects. Visitors can explore its reading room, characterised by sixteen nine-metre cast-iron columns and large side windows that let in natural light, as well as two glass vaults supported by iron arches. The building, designed by Henri Labrouste in the nineteenth century, is notable for its visible metal structure inside and an oculus dome that lights the space, evoking the shape of ships of the period with its levels, railings and flooring.
