Plaça d'Espanya
It is one of the largest squares in Barcelona, at 34,000 m², and was designed for the 1929 International Exposition as the entrance to Montjuïc; Josep Puig i Cadafalch and Guillem Busquets took part. Two towers inspired by the campanile of St Mark's in Venice, by Ramon Reventós, mark the approach along Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina. At the centre is Josep Maria Jujol's monumental fountain, with sculptures by Miquel Blay and by the brothers Miquel and Llucià Oslé, featuring allegorical rivers, seas and virtues. At one side stands the former Las Arenas bullring, in Neo-Mudéjar style, converted into a shopping centre, with a rooftop viewing terrace open to the public. Metro lines 1 and 3 and the regional trains meet here.
