Wrocław's main square is one of the largest in medieval Poland. In the centre stands the Gothic Town Hall (13th–16th centuries), with its decorated eastern façade and its astronomical clock, surrounded by colourful burgher houses with Baroque and Renaissance gables. Much of the square was rebuilt after the damage of 1945. Streets lead from it to the University, Plac Solny and the church district.
