Saint-Ambroise Church
Saint-Ambroise Church, in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, was built between 1863 and 1869 by architect Théodore Ballu and combines Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque elements. Walking along its 87-metre-long nave, visitors find cylindrical pillars with floral capitals, stained glass made between 1866 and 1869, and sculptures such as those of the prophets Jeremiah and Ezekiel on the façade. The main portal has three doors decorated with enamels depicting allegorical figures and Saint Ambrose, while outside visitors can stroll through the small Jardin Truillot, which has a sculpture dedicated to Catholic charity. During the Paris Commune, the church was used as a meeting hall for the Proletarian Club, and in 1996 it was briefly occupied by African immigrants seeking legal status.
