Eyüp Sultan Mosque

CultureVisit: ~60 min

A mosque in the Eyüp district, beside the Golden Horn, erected in 1458 by Mehmed II near the supposed tomb of Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, a companion of the Prophet. The present structure is a reconstruction from 1800 under Selim III. It is one of the most venerated places of Islam in Istanbul, with mausoleums and a large cemetery on the hillside. From there a cable car goes up to Pierre Loti Hill.
