Jewish Museum Berlin

The Jewish Museum Berlin occupies a building by Daniel Libeskind with metal façades, oddly shaped windows and a zigzag floor plan, reached from the old building via an underground passage. Inside, visitors follow three sloping axes symbolising continuity, emigration and the Holocaust, and can enter the Holocaust Tower and the Garden of Exile, with its 49 tilted pillars. The installation Shalekhet, by Menashe Kadishman, covers the floor of the Memory Void with thousands of steel faces that visitors walk over, producing a piercing sound. The permanent exhibition 'Jewish History and Present in Germany' spreads across more than 3,500 square metres in five historical chapters and eight themed rooms on religion, art and music, featuring original objects, audiovisual media, virtual reality and interactive games.
