Toyosu Market

Toyosu Market is a large wholesale market in Tokyo's Toyosu district that opened in 2018, replacing the historic Tsukiji market. It covers 408,000 m² and comprises three markets — a consumer wholesale market, an auction market and a fruit and vegetable market — each in its own building. Visitors can watch the fish auction from a walkway on the second floor or, after registering in advance, from a glassed-in viewing room on the same level. The fish buildings house around 40 food stalls, most of them on the upper floors and open to the public, along with restaurants serving seafood and fresh market produce and shops in the area known as Uogashi Yokocho. The complex includes a large rooftop lawn with landscaping, reached by lift, offering panoramic views over part of Tokyo's skyline; eating and drinking are not allowed there. At one corner of the buildings, by the water, stands the Uogashi Suijinja shrine. The market is built on land reclaimed from Tokyo Bay and is run by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government.
