MUHBA Plaça del Rei (Barcelona History Museum)
The Plaça del Rei site is the heart of the Museu d'Història de Barcelona, which opened on 14 April 1943 with Agustí Duran i Sanpere as its first director. It was installed in the Casa Padellàs, a 15th- and 16th-century palace moved stone by stone in 1931 from Carrer dels Mercaders. Beneath the square are preserved more than 4,000 square metres of ruins of the Roman city of Barcino, which you walk through along walkways. The visit includes the Palau Reial Major with the Saló del Tinell, a 14th-century ceremonial hall covered with great semicircular arches, and the Chapel of Santa Àgata, from the 14th century, with a 15th-century Gothic altarpiece by Jaume Huguet. You can also climb the Mirador del Rei Martí, a 15th-century tower. It is in the Gothic Quarter, next to the Jaume I metro stop.
