Picasso Museum, Barcelona
The Picasso Museum, Barcelona, occupies five medieval palaces from the 13th and 14th centuries on Carrer Montcada, in the La Ribera neighbourhood. Its permanent collection of more than 3,500 works focuses on Picasso's youth (1890–1917), with key pieces such as Science and Charity (1897) and Harlequin (1917), as well as the complete series of Las Meninas (1957). It also includes prints, lithographs and ceramics donated by Jacqueline Picasso. It was the first museum dedicated to Picasso and the only one created during the artist's lifetime. It has been declared a museum of national interest by the Government of Catalonia and has been ranked among the 40 most visited art museums in the world. The buildings that house it retain Gothic and Renaissance architectural features, such as central courtyards, external staircases and coffered ceilings.
