Monument about 67 metres tall, designed by the architect Alberto Prebisch and opened in 1936 to commemorate the four hundred years since the first founding of Buenos Aires. It stands in the Plaza de la República, at the crossing of Avenida 9 de Julio and Corrientes, and is the city's most recognisable symbol.
