Church of Santa Catalina
Church on the Plaza de Santa Catalina, a few steps from the Plaza Redonda and the Cathedral. It was built in 1245, after the arrival of James I, on the foundations of a former mosque. Its interior, in Valencian Gothic style, has a single nave with side chapels and an ambulatory behind the high altar; its good acoustics mean it hosts choral concerts. Its most recognisable feature is the Baroque bell tower by Juan Bautista Viñes, built between 1688 and 1705: hexagonal in plan and with five stages, it ends in a richly decorated crown. From the top you can see the Cathedral and the rooftops of Ciutat Vella. It is a working church, so visits are adapted to services.
