Twelfth-century church, possibly the first Romanesque church built in Zamora. It stands in Plaza de San Claudio, on the bank of the Duero. Its fame comes from its sculpture: the archivolts of the porch and the capitals of the interior columns are richly worked. The north portal is presided over by a lamb, symbol of Christ the Saviour, and above it is a heavily eroded liturgical calendar of late date, with everyday scenes such as the August threshing or the July thirst. Inside is venerated the Cristo del Amparo, an anonymous 17th-century image that is carried in procession on the night of Holy Wednesday, known as the one of the brown capes, by the Hermandad de Penitencia. It is one of the churches in the city's Romanesque visits programme.
