Museum of the City of Athens
The museum occupies two neoclassical houses on Paparrigopoulou Street. The one at number 7, the Old Palace, was built by the banker Stamatios Dekozis Vouros, born in Chios; King Otto and Queen Amalia, the first royal couple of the new Greek state, lived there for seven years. Afterwards, together with its neighbour at number 5, it was the home of the Vouros family. The last of them, Lampros Eutaxias, founded the museum in 1973 and it opened to the public in 1980. Among the exhibits are the throne room, Queen Amalia's restored piano, a manuscript copy of the 1844 Greek constitution that belonged to Otto, an interactive 3D model of Athens in 1842, Jacques Carrey's 1674 painting of the Parthenon and a map of Greece from 1838. In both houses there are also paintings and engravings by Western Europeans about nineteenth-century Greece.
