A complex of three museums next to the grounds of Topkapı Palace, founded in the late 19th century by Osman Hamdi Bey. It holds one of the great archaeological collections of the region, with pieces from Anatolia, Greece, Rome and the Near East. Its jewel is the Alexander Sarcophagus, from the 4th century BC, from the royal necropolis of Sidon and named for the battle reliefs that decorate it.
