The residence and administrative centre of the Ottoman sultans from the 15th century, commissioned by Mehmed II after the conquest of Constantinople; it was abandoned as a residence in 1856. It is organised around successive courtyards and preserves pavilions, kitchens and the Treasury, with pieces such as the Spoonmaker's Diamond and the Topkapı Dagger. The Harem is visited with a separate ticket. From its terraces you can see the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn.
