Old Elbe Tunnel
CultureVisit: ~45 min
The Old Elbe Tunnel (Alter Elbtunnel) opened in 1911 beneath the river, at the level of the Landungsbrücken, so that port workers could cross to the shipyards on the other bank. It is about four hundred metres long and you go down in monumental lifts that also used to carry vehicles. The walls are lined with tiles and the tunnel can be crossed on foot.
