Tomi Ungerer Museum – International Centre for Illustration
A museum dedicated to the Strasbourg illustrator Tomi Ungerer, in the Villa Greiner, an 1884 building near the place Broglie, next to the Fontaine de Janus that the artist himself designed. It previously housed municipal offices; it was completely refurbished for the museum, which opened to the public on 2 November 2007 and covers about 700 m². It holds nearly 14,000 drawings and prints that Ungerer donated to his native city from 1975: children's books, satirical and advertising drawings, and erotic work. It also holds about 1,700 works by other international illustrators acquired since 2007, such as Jean Effel, William Steig and Roland Topor, and some 1,600 toys. The drawings are shown in a rotating thematic tour. A winding ramp through the garden, by the architect Emmanuel Combarel, gives access to all visitors.
