Iglesia de San Pablo
The church of San Pablo, on Calle Capitulares, grew out of the convent that Ferdinand III ceded to the Dominicans in the Axerquía after the conquest, with a privilege ratified in 1241. The land had previously held a Roman circus and an Almohad palace. Work on the church was completed in the 15th century and combines Gothic, Mudéjar, Mannerism and Baroque. The main façade has a 16th-century Mannerist doorway attributed to Juan de Ochoa, with St Dominic on the upper level; the one on Calle Capitulares is Baroque, from 1706, with Solomonic columns and a niche with St Paul. Inside are three naves with Mudéjar lattice-work coffered ceilings and three apses. The Chapel of the Virgin of the Rosary, from the 15th century and remodelled in 1758, is an example of Córdoban Baroque, and the Chapel of the Expiration holds the Christ of the Expiration, from around 1612. Remains of the cloister are incorporated into a nearby passage on the same street. It has been a parish run by the Claretians since 1904.
