Iglesia de San Andrés
San Andrés is one of the Fernandine churches of Córdoba, built in the 13th century, with the first records dating from 1246, on the remains of the old basilica of San Zoilo. It stands in Plaza de San Andrés, in the Axerquía quarter. It preserves two bays before the main apse, unlike other Fernandine churches, which have only one. In the late 16th century Hernán Ruiz II built a bell tower inspired by that of San Lorenzo. In the early 18th century the medieval church became the transept of a new church, with works by Juan and Luis de Aguilar that finished in 1755 on the commission of Bishop Siuri, and its axis changed from east-west to north-south. The Baroque portal faces Calle del Realejo and bears the bishop's coat of arms and Saint Andrew with his saltire cross in a niche. The old Renaissance façade, with a pointed arch, was walled up until 1928. Inside, the gilded wooden high altarpiece was designed by Pedro Duque Cornejo in 1755, and the Chapel of Buen Suceso holds the images of that brotherhood.
