The church of San Millán, on Calle Veracruz, began as a Romanesque church and was one of the first Romanesque churches in Salamanca; only the apse survives from that building. In the early 18th century it was joined to the Colegio de San Millán, the first of the university's minor colleges, and Jerónimo García de Quiñones rebuilt it in 1765. Its last community was the Servants of Mary, who cared for the sick. It is no longer used for worship: it is owned by the city council and since 2010 has housed Monumenta Salmanticae, an interpretation centre for the city's architectural and urban heritage, designed by the Foundation for the Historic Heritage of Castile and León. In an open space, mainly in the nave, it combines virtual reconstructions, infographics and audiovisuals in Spanish and English, a video wall with the main monuments and a large scale model with a video show. The centre explains some 140 buildings and urban spaces.
