Hermitage of San Miguel
The Hermitage of San Miguel Arcángel stands in a natural setting among the pine woods of Calle el Pinar, next to the Los Manantiales recreation area, in Torremolinos. The simple chapel is surrounded by pine trees and offers panoramic views of the town and the Mediterranean Sea. Inside, visitors describe an atmosphere of silence and peace, suited to prayer and meditation. The building has no information panels about its history, beyond its name and the construction date above the door. The hermitage does not function as a parish church with daily Mass; its liturgical activity is concentrated around special events, especially the Romería de San Miguel, held every year on the Sunday before the San Miguel fair in September. During the pilgrimage, the day begins with the blessing of the pilgrims at the hermitage itself, followed by a Misa Romera sung by rociero choirs, and a procession of decorated ox- and tractor-drawn carts that winds through the streets up to the pine woods, where the musical performances continue. The site has a large dirt car park and is a starting point for hiking routes. Some visitors have reported litter and a lack of civic care in the surrounding area, particularly at the back, which contrasts with the peaceful atmosphere of the site.
