Monastery of Santa Clara-a-Velha

CultureVisit: ~60 min

Gothic monastery from the 14th century, linked to Queen Isabel of Aragon and to the tomb of Inês de Castro. Floods of the Mondego inundated it for centuries and it lay buried in mud, until it was excavated and recovered in the late 20th century. Today you can visit its Gothic church, with an interpretation centre that tells its story.
