Strawberry Field

At Strawberry Field, visitors can explore a multimedia exhibition telling the story of the site, John Lennon's childhood, the creation of the song 'Strawberry Fields Forever', and the work of the Salvation Army at the former orphanage, with objects and interviews, including an introduction from Paul McCartney and comments from Lennon's half-sister, Julia Baird. The exhibition also displays the original Steinway piano on which John Lennon composed and recorded 'Imagine', on temporary loan from the estate of George Michael. The visit lets you explore the gardens where Lennon played as a child and see the iconic original red gates, which have become a symbol for Beatles fans. The site also has a bandstand opened in 2023, whose mosaic floor references the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park and whose back wall shows a mural about the history of Lennon and the Salvation Army at this site. In addition, the Ukraine Peace Monument was installed at Strawberry Field in 2023 and will remain there until it can be moved to its permanent home in Ukraine.
