Église Saint-Polycarpe
This is the former Oratorian church, on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse, in the 1st arrondissement. The Oratorians began it in 1665 and finished it in 1670, apart from the façade, which the architect Toussaint-Noël Loyer completed in 1756. In 1791 it became a parish church and took the name of St Polycarp, teacher of the first bishops of Lyon. The cannon fire of the Convention in 1793 left marks on the façade. Between 1826 and 1836 François-Jacques Farfouillon added the transept, the dome and the choir. It has been listed as a historic monument since 1982 and its furnishings since 1978. Inside there is an organ by Augustin Zeiger from 1841-1842, several altars by Joseph Fabisch and a marble pulpit from 1864. In 1939 the organist Adrien Rougier gave the first performance of Duruflé's Toccata here. The heart of Pauline-Marie Jaricot rests in the Chapel of St Francis Xavier.
