National Bunraku Theatre
The National Bunraku Theatre is a complex with two halls and an exhibition room, opened in 1984 as Japan's fourth national theatre and home of bunraku. The main hall, seating around 700 depending on the stage set-up, is used mainly for bunraku performances, as well as buyō dance and other stage works. The small hall hosts other traditional arts such as rakugo, manzai and Japanese music. Four times a year, the Bunraku Kyōkai performers' association presents twenty-two days of performances in January, April, July/August and November. The theatre also has a research library and exhibition space as part of its mission to train new students of the art form. It is located in Osaka's Nipponbashi district, a one-minute walk from Exit 7 of Nipponbashi Station (Osaka Metro and Kintetsu).
