Salzillo Museum

The Salzillo Museum is dedicated entirely to the Murcian Baroque sculptor Francisco Salzillo and is located in the central Plaza de San Agustín, next to the Church of Jesus, which forms part of the same complex. It displays the processional images of the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus, which process on Good Friday morning, its renowned Nativity scene of 556 figures, and around fifty preparatory sketches. Visitors pass through different sections: the History of the museum, the History of the Brotherhood of Jesus in the church's tribunes, an audiovisual room, Salzillo's Biography, a recreation of a Baroque workshop, the Sketches Room, the Nativity Room and the Church of Jesus, where the processional images are on display. The museum also holds a Neapolitan Nativity scene of more than six hundred figures, with masterpieces such as Giuseppe Sanmartino's naked blind man. The circular-plan Church of Jesus stands out for its architectural originality and houses a Neoclassical circular shrine. The museum was declared a historic-artistic monument in 1962 and is one of the most visited in the Region of Murcia.
