Church of Jesus
The Church of Jesus is a circular Baroque church built between 1675 and 1696, declared a national monument in 1935. Inside, a series of radial chapels house the processional images made by Francisco Salzillo for the Brotherhood of Our Father Jesus the Nazarene, including The Last Supper (1761), The Agony in the Garden (1754), The Arrest or Kiss of Judas (1763), Jesus at the Column (1777), St Veronica (1755), The Fall (1752), St John (1755) and Our Lady of Sorrows (1756). In the main chapel, beneath a Neoclassical circular canopy by Julián Hernández, the titular image of Our Father Jesus the Nazarene is venerated, adapted in 1601 by Juan de Aguilera. The church forms part of the adjoining Salzillo Museum, and its interior decoration was commissioned in 1792 from Pablo Sístori.
