Southwark Bridge
Arch bridge over the Thames linking Southwark with the City of London. The current structure, opened in 1921 and designed by Ernest George and Basil Mott, is protected as a Grade II monument. Walking across, you can see, halfway along on the west side, a plaque commemorating its reconstruction between 1913 and 1921 and its opening by King George V. At the south end, under the bridge, there is a pedestrian tunnel integrated into the Queen's Walk whose frieze depicts the Thames frost fairs, and old steps that boatmen used to moor their boats. Cycle Superhighway 7 crosses the bridge, and its south end is close to Tate Modern, the Globe Theatre and the Clink Prison Museum.
