Tate Modern occupies the former Bankside Power Station, on the south bank of the Thames, and houses Britain's national collection of modern and contemporary art. The permanent collection is spread across themed rooms between the third and fifth floors, with works by artists such as Picasso, Warhol, Dalí and Rothko. In the Turbine Hall, a five-storey space that once housed the power station's generators, large-scale commissions by contemporary artists are displayed. Two of the Tanks host live art performances and installations, while the Starr Auditorium and the Level 1 seminar space screen films and host events.
