Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC)
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, at 364 Syngrou Avenue in Kallithea, opened in 2016 and is the work of Renzo Piano. It houses the National Library of Greece and the Greek National Opera, which seem to rise from an artificial hill crowned by a large photovoltaic canopy. The Opera has a 1,400-seat hall and a 400-seat black-box theatre. The surrounding park, covering 210,000 square metres, has more than 1,400 trees and hundreds of thousands of plants chosen according to Mediterranean ecology. A canal connects it with the sea and has choreographed fountains. At the top of the Opera building is the Lighthouse, a glazed viewpoint with views of the Acropolis, Piraeus and the Saronic Gulf, reached by the Panoramic Stairs from the park. The foundation donated it to the Greek State in 2017.
